Two days ago, riding a bus between Kisumu and Nairobi in Kenya, I listened to this Hagens podcast and was transfixed. Their comments rang true, especially Bateson's tautology piece. She put weight on the real center of the problem. We forbid, culturally and paradigmatically, thinking outside our box. Ecological thinking is not allowed in the room. Your last paragraph is brilliant and central. We are incapable of thinking like a mountain and forest. If we are going to have a remnant survive the impending collapse we have to let the mountain and forest think in all their respective places.
This post reminds me of my favorite Leonard Cohen 'Anthem' - "There is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in".
So when I get really discouraged I say to myself "Ring ring ring."
